Clarity, comfort and specialised care

Breast pain is very common and can happen for different reasons. Sometimes it can be linked to your menstrual cycle (called cyclic pain), and other cases will have a different cause (these are referred to as non-cyclic). While most breast pain isn’t serious, it can be distressing when persistent or particularly intense. That means it’s a good idea to get it checked out, rather than leave it.

Breast pain can be the result of a number of things including: hormone changes, harmless breast tissue changes (fibrocystic changes), wearing ill-fitting bras, muscle strain, or sometimes infections or lumps.

While it’s rarely a sign of breast cancer, if the pain is new or only in one spot, then it’s important to have it looked at.

Most breast pain gets better with simple steps like wearing a supportive bra, making some lifestyle changes, using over-the-counter pain relief, or just knowing that it’s usually nothing serious. If the pain is severe, sometimes hormone-related treatments can help.

It’s a good idea to see a doctor if the pain is particularly intense, lasts a long time, or is located just in one specific area. If you notice other changes in your breast, such as a lump, skin changes, or nipple discharge, then you should get it looked at. Our team is here and happy to support you in whatever way we can.
